The Book Store
The Book Store started as a way for Tom Lymbery to sell the books he had read and wanted to share with the community. It has since become a hub for information and stories written about the Kootenays.

Connecting the Kootenays
Michael Cone’s book Connecting the Kootenays’ is a 100 year history of the Kootenay Lake ferries. Cone takes you through the history of the ferries, beginning with the sternwheeler Nasookin in 1921, a vital water link as the rail line didn’t fully connect the east and west Kootenay until 1931.
The Kootenay Wolves
On August 24, 2013, wildlife photographer John E. Marriott received a call about gray wolves eating a moose carcass in Canada’s Kootenay National Park. Although the moose was gone by the time he arrived, a lone wolf remained. This encounter sparked a five-year project for Marriott to document these elusive wolves.
“The Kootenay Wolves” chronicles his efforts, including hiking, snowshoeing, and hiding in camouflage to capture the wolves’ lives amidst dangers like tourist traffic and hunters. Marriott’s journey reveals the resilience and rare behaviours of the wolf family, introducing us to Hawkeye, Whitey, Stranger, and the extraordinary wolf he called Mom.
